What Trends Do We Expect for Hotel Interior Design in 2018

I think many people confuse the term ‘trend’ with ‘style.’ In reality, even the gist of these two terms is quite different. A trend is basically “the general direction in which something is developing or changing.” On the other hand, style is a “design or make in a particular form.”
The reason I’m explaining this is because it is necessary to make the distinction between these two terms in order to fully understand this article. The hotel interior design trends for 2018 are literally a study of changing times. If you’re looking to keep up with the fast-paced world of today – especially when it comes to hotel designs – then it is important to keep up with these ever-static trends. Further, we’ll be explaining what trends we can expect for hotel interior design in 2018.

7 unique hotel interior design trends for 2018

1. Colors with a twist

Colors are your best asset when it comes to designing hotel interiors. While the soft, neutral color palate used to be all the rage in the past, hotel interior designs for 2018 will see a bolder, more vivid color scheme. This is essential because we’re the ‘Selfie’ generation, and who wants to Instagram a post with a boring, neutral interior design backdrop. So there will definitely be a rise in exuberant colors that make an impression on both the guests and your social media ventures.

Indoor gardens and patio designs are gradually becoming one of the most beloved hotel interior design trends. Eco-friendly is the name of this game, and vertical hydroponic walls, indoor patios, and Zen gardens are the way you can successfully articulate these concepts. The Margaritaville Hotel in Hollywood is the perfect example of bringing a small portion of the outdoors inside. It emulates a tropical cabana aesthetic with beautiful ornamental trees, grasses, and plants that have been artfully arranged to accommodate casual sitting spaces.

And also Moody Gardens is a tropical paradise nestled on the Galveston coast. The Galveston hotel’s grounds are beautiful and botanic, complete with palm trees and turquoise pools.

2. Creative lobby centerpieces

The hotel lobby is what is going to make an initial as well as a lasting impression on your guests. Therefore, it needs to be memorable. So what’s the most effective way to do that? Go for an attractive and impactful lobby centerpiece. This is not exactly one of the newest hotel design trends, but one that has been in use for quite a while – and one that will remain relevant even beyond 2018. A great example of this is the fountain centerpiece in the Al Busan Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Muscat, Oman. Another great example is the indoor garden centerpiece in the Four Seasons Hotel in Paris, France.

3. Breaking the fourth dimension

A full-scale sensory experience is one of the absolute must-have hotel interior design trends in 2018. While previously, we used to only cater to aesthetics and visuals, these days, it is pretty important to break that fourth dimension in order to truly impress a guest. This means, that designers have to go that extra mile in providing the best sensory experience. You have to emulate the best smells, the best bathroom accessories and the most comfortable furniture. Only when the guest is able to enjoy all the aspects of sight, smell and touch is your design truly successful.

4. Comfort above all

One of the most important hotel interior design trends of 2018 is a comfort. You might have heard of the ‘home away from home’ adage. That has never been more relevant in another context than hotel interior design. This basically entails that your hotels should come with a personal flair – a more individualized aesthetic that is pretty eclectic and easy on the eyes. Here’s how you can accomplish it:
Go for a mix-and-match material scheme.
Choose visually comfortable furniture pieces – a swing of the terrace, a comfy couch in a nook and a plus looking bed.
Try to emulate the ‘home interior design’ aesthetic in the hotel rooms. A residential style visual will make your guest more comfortable.
Avoid minimalistic and un-personalized design styles like pure modernism.
Similarly, try to avoid too much grandness a la Baroque or Greek Classical. Although a soft neo-classical interpretation always looks welcome.

5. Choose your style

You have to determine the genre of your hotel in order to decide on an actual style. If your hotel interior is a hodge-podge of ambiguous styles that are trying too hard to be cohesive – well, then your guest is going to feel the ambivalence. There are a number of hotel design genres that accommodate various people. Let’s look at the hotel interior design trends that may cater to different target markets:
– Business Hotels: These kinds of hotels tackle the typical office market, and are pretty standard in looks and service. They feature an economical interior design with an emphasis on comfort more than style.

6. Rustic Luxury

The contemporary rustic aesthetic is a total go-to when it comes to designing the public spaces in hotel interiors. There is something extremely fashionable yet comforting about the raw, materialistic appeal of this style. A warm exposed brick wall behind wall-mount seating and understated gold lighting has become quite the trendy aesthetic for designing in-house hotel restaurants. As such, this aesthetic has become one of the most beloved hotel interior design trends for 2018.

really interesting

Good article but I don’t agree that defining “style” into Business, luxury, boutique or rustic categories is helpful . Those are more helpful as “types” in understanding the target demographic. The larger point is accurate .in that owner , operator and designer must develop and agree on a cohesive and consistent design concept carried through every aspect of the project from the initial lobby wow experience all the way to the drawer pulls on the guest room furniture.

Excellent article.
