We were tasked with designing Sustainable Container Homes in two different projects. The first project was for a two-story container home while the second was for a three story container home. Our client wanted the whole project to be as affordable as possible enabling its future tenants to save money and energy.
We had to consider energy use, climate control and water use. We also had to consider the relationship between solar performance and the orientation angle, solar energy storage in the utility room and also isolations and heat control. We had to use modulated customized containers for the homes which added more limitation to the design.
We were able to finally present our final design which includes homes with two, four and five bedrooms. We were inspired by nature in the exterior design and therefore used cedar cladding for the rain claddings. The end result of the sustainable container house is an environmentally friendly and economic home.
